Students who are interested in the cooperative program (473) should not apply directly. Once enrolled in the 413 plan, students commencing in September may apply for the Co-op stream (473) during Semester 1 and will be admitted at the end of Semester 1 if they meet the Co-op program requirements. Co-op is not available for students commencing Semester 1 in January.
Mohawk College students who enroll in the two-year Mechanical Engineering Technician program at the Stoney Creek campus will earn more than just a technician degree! Graduates of the program attend the on-campus portion of the Associated Commerce – (433A) Industrial Mechanic – Millwright’s Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship programs. This allows graduates to enter apprenticeships – many large employers require a technician degree to enter – to complete three years.

Program learning outcomes, often referred to as “program standards,” identify the essential learning a student must achieve before they are considered ready to graduate.
In many cases, these program learning outcomes are developed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) in consultation with employers and educators experienced in the program area. To ensure the findings are up to date and aligned with industry needs, we invite our employers, graduates and current students working in the industry to review and update them in regular and ongoing program review focus groups.
If you have successfully taken a course at another post-secondary institution, you may be able to qualify for a certificate program waiver at Mohawk.

The program is offered in Seneca’s hybrid delivery format, and some courses are offered in Seneca’s flexible delivery format. Some courses are online, while others must be completed in person. Students will be required to come to campus in person to complete the study requirements. For courses offered in a flexible delivery format, professors use innovative learning spaces and technology to teach students in the classroom or lab and broadcast in real time to students participating remotely. In a flexible program, students can choose to study on-campus or online.
In this three-year advanced diploma program, you’ll learn how to interpret schematics and use electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools. With a focus on automation and robotics, the program blends electronics and mechanical engineering and focuses on training engineering technicians. You’ll acquire industry-specific skills such as operating hydraulic and pneumatic machinery, working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and understanding the elements of machine and industrial automation. Classes and workshops will be held at the Seneca Center for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CITE).
Students who meet all academic requirements may have the opportunity to complete an optional collaborative work period in a formal work setting. In most cases, internships are paid full-time positions completed between semesters. In programs with limited co-op opportunities, additional academic requirements and a passing score on a communications assessment may be required for eligibility. Eligibility for participation does not guarantee placement. Those who participate in the optional co-op program will incur an additional fee regardless of whether they are successful in securing a job position. As an industrial automation graduate, you are well prepared for a variety of positions in the automation and control systems industry.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they have a Microsoft Windows 10-based desktop or laptop system that meets or exceeds the following general technical requirements for personal computers:

Niagara College will not be able to support systems outside of the above specifications. Any software provided may not work properly. Academic software for your course (powered by the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system) will be available for download and remote use. If you are unable to download the software, you will also gain access to a high performance remote computer lab.
Technical requirements mean no support for Chromebooks or Apple products. Can I still follow my schedule if I have a Macbook or Chromebook?
For most projects, it is recommended that you use a MS Windows 10 computer (as described in the ‘IT/Technical Requirements’ section of this page) for the best experience and ease of downloading academic software. The reliability of Macbook and Chromebook users connecting remotely to University computers and software cannot be guaranteed.
They have versions for Macbooks and Chromebooks, and most internet-based apps work too. However, some program-specific software is designed to run on Windows 10, and successful download of these applications cannot be guaranteed. Our learning management system (LMS) at Niagara College is Blackboard, and while students can access Blackboard through an Internet browser, some assignments and tests have some level of security using a secure browser. Protected Browser doesn’t work on Macbooks or Chromebooks.
