Jobs In Usa For Filipino Without Experience
Mary Venus, Mont., had never heard of Billings before being offered a nursing job at a hospital in Billings, Mont., and had never been to the United States. A native of the Philippines, he researched his potential move online, put aside his worries about the Montana winter, and got down to business.
Seven Ways To Get Your Green Card In The United States
Sugar has been in Billings since mid-November, working in the surgical rehabilitation department at the Billings Clinic, Montana’s largest hospital by population. I moved into an apartment with my husband, bought a car and is in the process of installation. They recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Maybe it’s a “forever home,” he thought.
“I hope to stay here,” Sugar said. “So far so good. But it’s not easy. It’s like living on another planet for me.”
Billings clinic administrators hope he stays, too. The hospital has signed two dozen nurses from the Philippines, Thailand, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria, all of whom are expected to come to Montana this summer. There are many nurses from far away places.
The Billings hospital is one of several U.S. hospitals looking abroad to address nursing shortages exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic. The national demand is so strong that there is a steady stream of healthcare professionals waiting for work permits in the United States. More than 5,000 international nurses are awaiting final visa approval, the American Association of International Healthcare Recruiters reported in September.
Hiring Nurses (usrn) In Usa
“We’re seeing a dramatic increase in demand for international nurses,” said Leslie Hamilton-Powers, AAIHR board member and vice president of Avant Healthcare Professionals in Florida.
Before he began recruiting nurses from other countries and then placing them in US hospitals such as the Billings Clinic. Before the pandemic, Avant typically received orders for 800 nurses from hospitals. More than 4,000 such requests have now been received, Hamilton-Powers said.
“It’s just us, one organization,” Hamilton-Powers added. “Hospitals across the country are struggling and looking for alternatives to fill nursing vacancies.”
Foreign-born workers make up about one-sixth of the U.S. nursing workforce, and nursing associations and staffing agencies report that the need for them is increasing as more nurses leave the profession. Nursing schools have seen an increase in enrollment since the pandemic, but the staffing pipeline has done nothing to match today’s demand.
Asian Americans And Their Origins: Key Facts
In fact, the American Nurses Association called on the US Department of Health and Human Services in September to declare the nursing shortage a national crisis.
CGFNS International is the only organization authorized by the federal government to ensure the right of foreign-born healthcare workers to work in America. Its president, Franklin Shaffer, said many hospitals are looking abroad to fill vacancies.

Billings Clinic will hire 120 more nurses today if available, hospital officials said. Before the pandemic, there was a significant shortage of personnel. The demands and stress of COVID-19 have made this impossible.
Greg Titensor, registered nurse and vice president of operations at Billings Clinic, noted that three of the hospital’s most experienced nurses, one with at least 20 years of experience in the intensive care unit, recently announced their retirement.
Last fall, Montana had the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in the nation, and the Billings Clinic’s ICU was full of patients. Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte sent the National Guard to the Billings clinic and other Montana hospitals; the federal government sent pharmacists and a naval medical team.
While growth is slowing in Montana, Yellowstone County, home to hospitals, still has the highest number of active cases in the state. A Billings clinic’s ICU remains mostly filled with COVID-19 patients, with signs warning visitors that “aggressive behavior will not be tolerated,” a warning that health care workers are at risk of abuse and violence as the pandemic continues.
Easy Jobs That Pay Well (with Examples)
Like most hospitals, the Billings Clinic has tried to reduce its staffing shortage by hiring traveling nurses, contract workers who travel to places where the epidemic is needed. The clinic charged up to $200 an hour for its services and at its peak last fall had about 200 traveling nurses as part of its workforce.
The nation’s shortage of nurses has led to such high bills, and members of Congress have asked the Biden administration to investigate unscrupulous agency staff.
Whatever the reason, hospital staffing shortages are unsustainable, said Priscilla Needham, Billings Clinic’s chief financial officer. He pointed out that Medicare doesn’t pay hospitals more if they need to hire more expensive nurses, and doesn’t pay enough when a COVID patient needs to stay in the hospital longer than a typical COVID patient.
From July to October, hospital nursing costs increased by $6 million, Needham said. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the CARES Act have helped, but he predicted further increases in spending in November and December.

Dozens of agencies place international nurses in US hospitals. Billings Clinic, the company chosen by Avant, initially deployed nurses in Florida to ease the transition to the United States, said Brian Hudson, the company’s senior vice president.
Venus, who has nine years of experience as a nurse, said her training included overcoming cultural barriers such as how to pay taxes and obtain car insurance.

CGFNS International’s Schaffer said foreign-born nurses are interested in the United States for many reasons, including education, career advancement, more money or marriage. For some, the idea of living the “American Dream” prevails, says Avant Hudson.
So far, the rescuers have brought the nurses to the country quickly enough. After being offered and accepted, foreign-born nurses are required to have a final interview with the State Department to obtain a visa, and these interviews are delayed. Powers explained that due to the pandemic, many of the US embassies conducting these interviews are closed or open less than normal hours.
The backlog has been shrinking in recent weeks, but Powers described the delay as a challenge. He emphasized that the nurses-in-waiting in their home countries have passed all the necessary tests to work in the United States.
“It’s very frustrating that nurses are available to come and we can’t get them,” Powers said.

After they arrive, the international nurses in Billings will remain on staff at Avant, but the clinic may offer them permanent positions after three years. Hospital authorities insist that nurses are paid the same as local nurses with similar experience. In addition, the hospital pays Avant.
More than 90 percent of Avant’s international nurses decide to stay with their new colleagues, Hudson said, but the Billings clinic hopes to improve that rate.
Welcoming them to the city will be critical, said Sara Agostinelli, the clinic’s director of diversity, equity, inclusion and inclusion. Even winter driving lessons were offered.
The city will benefit from the added diversity, Agostinelli said. Some nurses will bring spouses; some bring their children with them.

Pae Junthanam, a Thai nurse, said she was concerned about coming to Billings after learning that Montana’s population is about 90 percent white and less than 1 percent Asian. However, the potential for career advancement outweighed the anxiety of moving. He also hopes that his partner of 10 years will join him soon.
Juntanam, who has been warmly welcomed by her neighbors since her arrival in November, said the shop owner thanked her for her services after learning she was a nurse recently from Thailand.
